Methodology

The bench.cx Sealed Market Index is a chained, equal-weighted index of daily price returns across the English sealed Pokémon catalog, with a base value of 100 on December 19, 2025. Every day, bench.cx records the TCGplayer market price of each tracked product; the index moves by the average day-over-day return across all products priced on consecutive days.

Guardrails: case products whose prices bench derives from their base unit (6× booster box, 10× Elite Trainer Box) are excluded to avoid double counting; single-day moves larger than 50% are treated as data glitches and dropped; gaps longer than 14 days between observations don't contribute a return; and a day must have at least 100 product observations to register. Because the index is equal-weighted, a $5 booster pack's percentage move counts the same as a $600 vintage box's — it measures the breadth of the market, not the dollar-weighted value of a portfolio.

The underlying price data refreshes daily via bench.cx's pricing pipeline and covers 2,600+ products; roughly 2,077 have fresh prices feeding the index on a typical day.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Pokémon Sealed Market Index?
A single daily number that tracks how the whole sealed Pokémon TCG market is moving — like a stock index, but for sealed product. It is computed across roughly 2,077 English sealed products (booster boxes, Elite Trainer Boxes, bundles, tins, collection boxes and more) from daily market prices, with a base value of 100 on December 19, 2025.
How is the index calculated?
Each day, bench.cx records the TCGplayer market price of every sealed product it tracks. The index chains the equal-weighted average of day-over-day price returns across all products priced on consecutive days. Case products whose prices are derived from their base unit are excluded to avoid double counting, single-day moves over 50% are treated as data glitches and dropped, and a day needs at least 100 product observations to count.
What does the index cover?
English sealed Pokémon TCG product tracked on bench.cx — currently 2,600+ products across every era from Base Set to the newest releases, of which roughly 1,900 have fresh daily prices that feed the index.
